about
This is a song I wrote about moving to North Idaho with California license plates. Don't worry Idaho, we already moved out! lol I didn't move to Idaho because everyone else is. I fled an abusive relationship and just started driving. I had 5 days with a U-Haul to find a new spot to call home. I put an add on the Spokane Craigslist looking for a dog friendly room to rent. I had never been to Oregon, Washington, Idaho or Montana before, so I decided to head north to check things out.
Bella and I ended up in Post Falls, ID and I started my Pedal to the Metal journey and tour. I soon realized the stigma that came with moving to Idaho coming via California. Idaho hates the growth that has come with everyone moving there. When playing at a bar one night, a guy joked with me about my California plates, and it sparked this song. Since I fled a highly scary situation, I didn't change my plates for over a year. I didn't want to be found. Needless to say, I ended up getting pulled over 12 times because I had out of state plates. The police in Idaho are fabulous. I never got one ticket. They would ask why I'm so organized when I get pulled over. I told them because they pull me over every week!
The song refers to me missing everything I used to know. That is not California. Missing everything I used to know is Minnesota and how I grew up in the country, with down home people. Idaho reminded me a lot of back "home". As I sit here today, I've called 6 states 'home'. I hope wherever you find yourself in this giant country, that you always feel "Here at HOME".
lyrics
As I pull up to the bar, the 1st thing you see is my car. It's a little out of place with these California plates but this girl was Minnesota raised. You've got NRA and hunting racks up on your tailgate. Ya I'm a little out of place but my California days are down that road.
I've been missing me everything I used to know. A little piece of me is finally here at home.
I break it all down and leave the bar. Back seat filled with speakers, Bella and my guitar. All you see are taillights and these out of place Cali plates.
